Joshigakusei Career Design Center

The Joshigakusei Career Design (JCD) Center is an organization thoroughly committed to supporting female students during their time at university and in the career field after graduation. The center implements and oversees a variety of planning centered on female students, and it uses this planning as a means of equipping female students with necessary job hunting skills, as well as fundamental skills and confidence for life after university.

"Joshigakusei" means female students

About the Projects

Marché Project

The Marché Project is run in conjunction with companies and farms and has as its objective the development of boxed meals and new recipes. Participants experience farm operations first-hand and learn about seeding, pest control and other operations to get deeper understanding of vegetables. A minestrone soup was developed from this project which ended up selling quite well at the university festival.

LEAF GARDEN Menu Development Project

Since 2013, this project has developed new menus for the LEAF GARDEN restaurant on campus. Project members solicit and discuss opinions about flavor, appearance, quantity, cost, seasonality and other factors, going through numerous tasting samples before eventually settling on menu items that go on sale for a limited time.

Calbee Consumer Survey Project

Participants work as researchers at the Calbee Future Labo (CFL), located within Calbee, Inc., where they assist with developing innovative product ideas. They conduct consumer survey interviews to identify consumer needs and then compile these into a product plan presented in front of Calbee employees.

Kyaromi Project

"Kyaromi" is the JCD mascot that was born from a design created by a female student. Kyaromi has been put to great use as a popular icon for HIT, thanks to it being among the top prize winners at the Yuru-Chara Grand Prix, among other awards and recognition. Kyaromi is used as part of activities intended to broadly communicate and highlight HIT.

Bespoke Room Project

Working in conjunction with Shimane Fudosan Co., Ltd. (realtor), participants put forward room plan ideas for a one-room efficiency intended for a university student. The idea that is chosen is then turned into a reality. By incorporating participants into the actual room creation process, they gain experiences that cannot be gleaned in the classroom.

JCD PRESS

The JCD Press is a semiannual informational publication that introduces readers to successful female engineers and technical experts, as well as promotes the appeal of HIT and the JCD Center. From planning to news gathering, copy production and editing, the distinctive perspective of female students is incorporated throughout.

Carrot Radio

JCD Carrot Radio is run entirely by students, from radio program planning and arrangement to on-air hosting. This station promotes the appeal of HIT as well as communicates the daily life experiences of female students, and at the same time the program development process serves to strengthen participants' planning and communication skills that will come in handy as a professional later in life.

Web Design Classroom

Aimed at junior high school students in the local community, this classroom was opened to teach them how they can go about using simple programming languages to create a homepage. As the university student teachers introduce their pupils to the joys of design and programming, they themselves are honing their own Web design skills.

Umashima Project

The aim of this project is to broadly communicate the appeal of Umashima (a small island that is part of Tabuse Town in Yamaguchi Prefecture), focusing on its nature, culture and other aspects, in order to contribute to a revitalization of the island community. During the summer break a camp is held on the island, and participants spend their time investigating the local nature and interviewing the local inhabitants.

Programming Classroom

This Programming Classroom introduces children to the joys of programming by having them create games and program robotic cars, and this contributes to greater interest among the children in information systems. For the university students who prepare and run the class, this project helps to equip them with better communication and planning skills.

Traveling Science Experiment Classroom

Since 2008, this university student-led science experience classroom has operated at the university, as well as at local primary schools, community centers and elsewhere, introducing children to the joys of science. All aspects of this classroom, including advance consultations, contacting interested participants, preparing materials and conducting the class on the day, are carried out by HIT university students.

Seto Inland Sea Coexistence Project

Participants in the "Freshwater Clam Project" undertake biological studies of local river freshwater clams, as well as water quality studies, with the aim of improving the colonization rate of the clams, and participants also run an "Environmental Classroom" for primary school children in order to stimulate their interest in environmental issues.

Career Assistance Program

Sharp Impression Seminar

This seminar is offered to female students before they start looking for jobs, helping them to develop their interview and appearance (make-up and business suit) skills. Experts are invited to teach participants about how to behave, speak and dress so that they are prepared as pleasant and polite candidates during their job search.

Skill Development Seminars

A "Grade 3 Color Examination Preparation Seminar" is offered to both those who are planning to take a color examination seminar and those who are simply interested in deepening their knowledge about colors. An "Organization Advisor Seminar" is offered to help students identify the underlying causes and problems which lead them to being disorganized, after which their organization skills undergo a fundamental reorientation.

Female Work Style Seminars

The JCD Center runs female career-related seminars, as well as provides opportunities to interview working women. These seminars help female students to maintain their desire to keep learning, even after graduation, so that they can continue to improve themselves and their resumes.

Female Student Placement Rate

Female Student Placement Rate

100.0%

At the JCD Center, we provide a broad range of support aimed at helping to produce ever more outstanding female engineers and technical experts capable of contributing to society. We actively partner with students in the planning and running of a variety of programs in order to help these students in examining themselves, in drawing up career plans and in equipping them with the necessary skills for success after graduation. The high placement rate that we achieve with female students is thanks to the meticulous support that our center provides.

The JCD Center is full of projects and is a place where everyone, regardless of their year or department, comes to find interesting and exciting challenges to tackle, not just job hunting-related information or experience. This year our motto is "Turn your interest into action!" With the help of the JCD Center, even those ambitions that are too daunting to achieve on your own are possible, providing you with a happy sense of accomplishment. And in the course of accomplishing your goal, you will make new friends and cultivate new and practical skills. This is what everyone can expect from the newly revamped JCD Center this year. Together, we want to ensure that everyone in and connected with the JCD Center can go about their work with a smile on their face!
