Department of Architectural Design

Producing specialists capable of creating high-quality architectural spaces.

In recent years, there has been a growing need within the field of architecture to produce enriching, environmentally-sustainable residential environments offering a high quality of life. In the Department of Architectural Design, students are equipped with advanced knowledge and technical expertise needed to secure national qualifications, such as that required for certification as a class-1 and class-2 architect, as well as a deep understanding of “Interiors and Woodworking,” “Digital Design” and “Architecture.”

Education and Research Areas

  • Interiors and Woodworking

Students learn about residential lifestyles and environments and are equipped with the technical skills for interior and residential design creation and expression. They undertake practical training, such as workshop-related practical training in the planning and production of tables, chairs and other wooden furniture used in daily life interiors, and they cultivate the skills necessary to perform total coordination of residential environments.

  • Digital Design

The pace of computer software and digital tool-driven manufacturing is accelerating. Students will learn the technical skills required to use computer technology in design and manufacturing. They will deepen their knowledge and skills in cutting-edge digital design and pursue modes of design and expression only possible with digital technology.

  • Architecture

Students will be equipped with architectural design theoretical knowledge and skills for comprehensive expression. Without knowledge of architecture, it is not possible to create enriching residential environments. Students will acquire a broad range of architecture-related knowledge, including how to not only produce safe and comfortable architectural structures and installations, but how to manage and maintain them, as well.

Subject Introduction

  • Computational Design

    Computational Design

Advancements in information technology have brought forth new, computer-driven design methods in the field of architecture. Course lectures will provide students with a foundation in design via modeling and programming incorporating cutting-edge 3D CAD.

  • Digital Fabrication Practical Training

    Digital Fabrication Practical Training

A new manufacturing is beginning to emerge as a result of the increasing prevalence of laser cutters and 3D printers. Students will acquire a foundation of knowledge in, as well as explore the possibilities of, manufacturing which utilizes state-of-the-art digital fabrication equipment, such as 3D printers and NC machine tools.

  • Architectural Design Practical Training A and B

Architectural Design Practical Training A and B

As fundamental elements of architectural design, students will learn how to handle space and volume, as well as to produce 3D models, physically render conceptual models and perform other architectural design tasks. By undertaking a variety of challenges, students will become familiar with architectural modeling procedures and processes.

  • Design Workshop

    Design Workshop

This practical training utilizes a workshop format in which students collaborate on the creation of a simple architectural design piece. They will become familiar with every step of the architectural design creation process, from planning to production. Upon completion of the piece, the students will exhibit it along with giving a presentation.

  • Workshop Practical Training

    Workshop Practical Training

Students will follow the design process of this hands-on workshop to manufacture a familiar item, such as a piece of furniture, which we use to enrich our living spaces. In addition to becoming familiar with the knowledge and technical skills needed to carry out manufacturing, students will gain an understanding of the diverse structural, functional and design characteristics of manufactured articles.
